Best features of the TECNO Pouvoir 4; 7-inch smartphone with 6000mAh battery

The TECNO Pouvoir 4 has been available in the Kenyan market for a while now. It is the latest device in their series of battery-focused devices. This year, TECNO has pushed the limits to 6000mAh with a whole 7-inch display! There’s 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It is powered by the Helio A22 processor, running Android 10.

Before sharing on the best features of this device, here are the things that I really wish TECNO changed:

  1. The display maxes out at 720p
  2. There’s no USB Type-C still

The above let-downs could be very important to some people and could influence decisions on whether or not they get this phone. If you don’t care about them, then let’s talk about the best features of this phone.

A big screen:

A big screen is a joy to use. Especially when it is in a form factor that easily fits in the hand. Like yes, this is a big phone, but look at it on my hand. Completely usable. Completely comfortable. The buttons on either sides are also easy to reach.

A big screen makes media consumption quite the joy. So reading, watching, gaming is to some extent quite immersive. The only issue is that with the Helio A22 that’s now quite dated, one can’t expect to play heavy, demanding games. But if you’re a reader of books, articles etc. You will enjoy the big screen. You will also enjoy the screen if you love social media.

With movies, music videos, or YouTube, if you are comfortable with a maximum of 720p output, you’ll be fine. However, if you want the full HD experience, this won’t be it for you. The good thing though is that the brightness of the display, and how colors appear is good.

A huge battery:

The 6000mAh battery is great. Like really good. You can push almost 2 days of use with the usual social media, and some listening to music over wired headphones. Someone suggested they’d love it very much for Uber, Safeboda etc. because of the long battery life. However, in cases where the display is on for a long while, while on 4G, the battery drain is quite significant. Though that’s to be expected, and in such cases, I estimate one can still push over 7hrs of screen-on time.

With the non-demanding display, and the non-demanding processor, the battery doesn’t have much demand to strain it. The only issue is this: once it dies you will need extra patience to recharge it to 100%. There’s no fast charging. A full charge will last close to 2hrs and some more minutes. My solution is to just charge it overnight.

Better pricing:

The TECNO Pouvoir 3 had a recommended retail price of KES. 17,000+ on launch. This one’s set at KES. 14,999. The Pouvoir 3 had 2GB of RAM with 32GB storage, this one has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The Pouvoir 3 had a 5000mAh battery, this one has a 6000mAH battery.

So you’re getting much more for a little less. Though I still feel like TECNO could have been more aggressive with the pricing.

Newer software:

The one thing that really didn’t cut it for me with the Pouvoir 3 was the Android version. TECNO wanted you to buy a phone in 2019 running Android 8 Oreo – a version of Android that was so outdated. The Pouvoir 4 fixes that. There’s now Android 10 out of the box. And you get extra things like the dedicated red button on the site which gives quick access to the Google Assistant.

What more would you like to know about the Pouvoir 4 so that I cover it in the full review?
