Nokia 6.1 Plus receiving Android 10 update

HMD Global is hell-bent on keeping its word.

The company has already started seeding the Android 10 update for the Nokia 6.1 Plus, as planned.

The update brings several new features to the device, which was launched in 2018 running Android 8.1, Oreo.

The update, which is surprisingly hitting early devices with the December 2019 security patch, and not the January 2020 one, clocks in at 1.3 gigabytes.

There is a system-wide dark mode for when users want to break the monotony of the “more white” traditional Android user interface. There are intuitive gestures for navigating backwards and forwards, pulling up the home screen and the Google Assistant as well as swiping upwards to access apps in the app drawer.

For specific apps like Android Messages and Google Maps, smart replies are also natively supported, among other features Google has introduced with Android 10.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus has been available in the Kenyan market since October 2018. It has the distinction of having been the very first Nokia smartphone with a notch to be launched in the country.

A month after its arrival, it received an upgrade to Android 9 Pie.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus started selling locally for Kshs 32,000, a steep price at that time. However, given that it has been over a year since its arrival, its price has since dropped and with it getting Android 10, this might actually be the best time to consider it again.

HMD Global is expected to update the Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 7 Plus any time this month as well.

Other Nokia devices in the 4, 3, 2 and 1 series are expected to start getting their Android 10 updates from later on in this first quarter of the year.

The over-the-air (OTA) update for the Nokia 6.1 Plus should be hitting the devices of users locally any time over the next few days.
